What does the Sport Premium mean for Leigh Academy Hartley?

The Department for Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport, have jointly provided ring-fenced funding directly to primary schools to improve the provision of physical education and school sport in primary schools across England. The premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils and to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.

How we intend to use the Sport Premium at Leigh Academy Hartley:

  • To provide staff with targeted professional development, mentoring, training and resources to help them teach PE and sport more effectively and embed physical activity across our school.
  • To develop active, positive playtimes and lunchtimes for our children including training for adults and Play Leaders to support this, providing new markings on the playground and new equipment.
  • To embed physical activity and movement into the school day, enabling our young people to be active for at least 30 minutes during the school day.
  • To develop a love of sport and physical exercise by providing a broad range of sports and activities during PE lessons, lunchtimes and in after school provision.
  • To encourage children to develop a life-long love of physical activity.
  • To provide opportunities for children to participate in competitive sport including increased participation in the School Games.
  • To introduce new sports, dance and other activities to encourage more pupils to take up sport and physical activities.
  • To raise attainment in swimming to meet requirements of the national curriculum before the end of KS2.
