PTA stand for Parents Teachers Association at Leigh Academy Hartley
PTA is a registered charity run by a group of parents and staff volunteers. Its aim is to raise money to provide extras to improve the school and each child’s learning through their time and experience at the school. Every parent and carer with a child at the school is invited to be an active member of the PTA, as are all the teachers. It also provides a vital link between school, community and home life, giving the teachers, children and their families opportunities to have fun together.
The PTA organises a number of events and activities throughout the school year, ranging from the Christmas and Summer Fairs, to smaller regular events like Mother’s/Father’s Day gift stalls, after school treats, school discos and movie nights.
The PTA committee, which is elected at the AGM in September, meet four times a year, with smaller working groups meeting as necessary when we are planning larger events like the Christmas and Summer Fairs. A member of the senior management team attends each committee meeting. All parents and teachers are welcome at every meeting. Attending a meeting does not mean that you are signed up for life!
You will receive PTA news and any forthcoming events through the school’s newsletter and MCAS.
What is the PTA money used for?
The PTA raises around £10,000 per year and plays a key role in providing things our children would not otherwise have at school such as additional educational resources, playground equipment and annual software subscriptions. PTA funds have been used to help fund coach costs for school trips, defibrillator accessories, playtime activities for indoor and outdoor play, Christmas Panto activities, subscription to Animaphonics, ukulele lessons for year 5 and have provided Easter eggs for all children and will also fund Forest School sessions for the whole school. In previous years, the PTA played a key role in raising sufficient funds to allow purchasing of key ICT equipment including laptops, iPads and interactive whiteboards and playground equipment. The PTA have also provided various books for the school library and have provided accessories in the school’s Well-being room which is used daily for pupils.
How can I be part of the PTA?
We are always looking for new members, new ideas and new helpers. You can offer as much or as little support as you like.
Join the Committee if you would like to be involved in planning PTA events and making decisions about how to spend the money raised.
Join the Volunteer Army if you are unable to join the committee but would like to help at events – look out for volunteer requests on either the PTA events website when we have an event or through a class representative – every class has one. If, as a parent, you would like to pay for PTA events directly, please use this link: https://www.pta-events.co.uk/hpapta
