At Leigh Academy Hartley, we believe in developing lifelong learners who are prepared to thrive in a global community. Through the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, our students explore real-world connections between subjects and future careers. Every child is encouraged to become a Happy, Positive Achiever who is Learning to Change the World.
Careers-related learning is woven into every year group and across all subjects. Students regularly encounter professionals and are introduced to a wide range of roles through classroom activities, themed weeks, visitors, and trips. Our curriculum encourages pupils to ask, “What could I be?” and “How does my learning connect to the real world?”

Future Ready 50: Leigh Academy Hartley’s Careers Pledge
At Leigh Academy Hartley, we are committed to preparing our learners for life beyond the classroom. Our Future Ready 50 pledge ensures that every child experiences at least 50 careers-related encounters, events, visits or visitors by the time they move on to secondary school.
These experiences — delivered through the curriculum, enrichment, themed weeks and community links — open windows to the world of work and help our students see themselves as the future scientists, artists, builders, entrepreneurs and changemakers of tomorrow.
It’s our promise to help them build aspirations, awareness and ambition from the very start.
“See It. Be It.”
We make sure every child sees themselves in the careers and visitors we bring in — and we show them what else is out there so they know what they can become.
- “See It” = representation and visibility
- “Be It” = aspiration and ambition
Academy Responsibilities & Class Jobs
At Leigh Academy Hartley, we believe in giving our learners real ownership over their school experience. From a young age, children are encouraged to apply for leadership roles that promote independence, build confidence, and nurture key employability skills. These responsibilities are more than just jobs — they are meaningful experiences that help pupils develop communication, organisation, teamwork and leadership.
Pupils apply for or are nominated to take on whole-school roles such as:
- Academy Council Representative
- Digital Leader
- Reading Ambassador
- House Captain
- Playground Buddy
- Wellbeing Ambassador
- Librarian
- Photographer
Our Clubs and Enrichment Activities
Our clubs are designed to nurture talents and raise awareness of the working world. Each term we offer a rich variety of opportunities for example:
- Science Club: We are Scientists!
- Drama Club: We are Actors!
- Makaton Club: We are Communicators!
- STEM Challenge: We are Engineers!
Resources for Families
We know that families play a crucial role in shaping children’s aspirations, so we provide a range of high-quality resources to help parents and carers explore careers education at home, support conversations about the future, and stay informed about the opportunities available to their child.
