On the morning of Friday 6th March, some of our Year 5 children attended a Dance Festival held at Northfleet School for Girls in their fantastic dance studio. The children had an exciting morning of movement, creativity and collaboration with other local schools.
The event began with introductions to the dance teacher and the secondary students who were helping to run the festival. A group of Year 8 students then led a lively warm-up to get everyone ready for the morning’s activities.
The children went on to learn three different dance routines, each taught step by step by the secondary students. The first routine had a musical theatre theme based on Little Shop of Horrors and was led by a Year 12 student. This was followed by a contemporary routine set to music from K-Pop Demon Hunters. The final routine was an energetic street dance to the song Butter by BTS. After learning each routine, the schools attending took turns to perform for one another, with the emphasis firmly placed on showing respect and encouragement through applause.
Later in the session, the children were introduced to a number of dance lifts. They were shown how to perform some of these safely and were then given the opportunity to try them out themselves. The secondary dance students also demonstrated some impressive advanced lifts for the children to watch. The morning ended with a cool-down activity.
Throughout the festival, our pupils were eager to take part, enthusiastic to ask questions and keen to try new things. One particular highlight was when Daisy showed wonderful sportsmanship by going over to applaud another school’s performance that had really impressed her. This thoughtful gesture demonstrated many of our learner profile attributes and made us very proud.
Well done to all of our Year 5 dancers for representing the school so positively and embracing the experience with such enthusiasm!
